Choosing a Primary Provider

Stillwater Medical Group encourages all patients who receive care at our clinics to choose one person as a primary provider. Here are some commonly asked questions about this choice.

What is a primary provider?

  • A primary provider is a doctor, physician assistant, certified nurse-midwife, or nurse practitioner who oversees and monitors your care.
  • Whenever possible our aim is to schedule all of your visits with your primary provider. If your primary provider is unavailable, we will offer you another choice.
  • You should see your primary provider for your health maintenance visits (for example, your physicals) and management of chronic problems such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart problems, asthma, etc.

How do I choose a primary provider?

  • Select a primary provider from our list of physicians. Make an appointment with the provider you feel will best fit your individual health care needs.
  • When you call to make an appointment, please let the appointment scheduler know which provider you would like to designate as your primary provider.
  • Some providers are not accepting new patients. However, if you have seen a provider regularly in the past you may choose him or her as your primary provider.

What if I want to change my primary provider?

We encourage you to choose a primary provider and maintain that relationship over time. We understand that situations change and that selecting a new primary provider may become necessary.
