Fitness for Duty (FFD) evaluations are available to assess an individual's health status in relation to his or her ability to perform the essential functions of a job. Fitness for Duty evaluations are used to:
- Determine whether it is appropriate to return a worker to the original job after a non-work or work-related injury or illness
- Determine whether the worker needs workplace modifications in order to return to a job
- Provide the company with data on current health status and factors involved in a successful return to work
Evaluations are also available to assess special problems such as:
- Absenteeism
- Potential substance abuse (drugs or alcohol)
- Psychological problems
The decision to have an evaluation done is generally determined by company policy. Information about the purpose of the evaluation and the desired outcome is obtained from the company spokesperson prior to the visit. After the evaluation is complete, a dictated report will be provided to the authorized company contact person.
