Preplacement Medical Examinations

Preplacement examinations are conducted to assist employers in finding the appropriate job fit for employees. Components of the preplacement exam are based on the job requirements. The recommendation for an applicant's medical suitability is based on the results of the exam in relation to the requirements of the job.

The preplacement examination consists of:

  • Vital signs: height, weight, blood pressure, pulse
  • Vision screening: visual acuity, peripheral and color vision
  • Review of history: occupational and general medical
  • Physical examination

Additional components, such as audiograms, are incorporated into the basic preplacement examination as requested by the client company.

Preplacement examination results are promptly phoned to the authorized company contact person and are followed by a written confirmation of the medical findings.

Result categories for preplacement examinations are:

  • Medically recommended for position
  • Medical recommendation reserved pending additional medical information
  • Medically recommended with limitations as noted

Preplacement examinations are performed by Dr. Charles Hipp, a board-certified occupational medicine physician. In Dr. Hipp's absence, the examinations are performed by Stillwater Medical Group physicians or physician assistants. Preplacement examinations are typically performed within 72 hours of the request for the examination.
